Steve Earl Higgins (born August 13, 1963, in Des Moines, Iowa) is an American writer, producer, announcer, actor, and comedian who has been a central figure at NBC's late-night programming for over three decades. Early in his career, he was a member of the sketch comedy trio The Higgins Boys and Gruber, who hosted an eponymous Comedy Central series from 1989 to 1991. He joined Saturday Night Live in 1995 as a writer, rising to co-head writer from 1995 to 1997, and has remained with the series as a producer and close associate of executive producer Lorne Michaels ever since.
Since 2009, Higgins has served as the announcer and sidekick on Jimmy Fallon's late-night franchise, beginning with Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and continuing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon from 2014 onward. He won a Primetime Emmy Award in 2017 for his producing work on the franchise. His on-screen presence as a deadpan comedic foil to Fallon has made him a recognizable personality in his own right.
In Ghostbusters: Answer the Call (2016), which was directed by Paul Feig (a longtime collaborator through the SNL and NBC network world), Higgins portrayed Dean Thomas Shanks, the university dean who dismisses the Ghostbusters team in the film's opening act.
