Yvette Cruise is an actress born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, who later graduated from Iowa State University in the United States. She has worked in film and television across several decades, with credits including Stand and Deliver (1988), Criminal Behavior (1992), Flashfire (1994), and Phoenix (1998). On television, she made guest appearances on Seinfeld, ER, MacGyver, and Criminal Minds, and played a recurring nurse role across seasons two, three, and five of Grey's Anatomy (2005-2009).
In Ghostbusters II (1989), Cruise portrayed Maria, Dana Barrett's housekeeper and babysitter, who cares for baby Oscar in the film. Maria appears in Chapter 05 ("Investigating Oscar"), where she finishes feeding Oscar and hands him to Dana before the Ghostbusters arrive to investigate. The character is credited simply as Dana's Maid. The February 27, 1989 draft of the script notes that Maria also provided day care for Oscar. Her last name was later adopted by the Ghostbusters expanded universe as Maria's canonical surname: on page 20 of Ghostbusters Volume 2 Issue #14 (IDW Publishing), a note left by the phone is addressed to "Maria Cruise," folding the actress's last name directly into the fiction -- one of the more unusual cases of a performer's real name becoming part of the canonical continuity.
