Real Ghostbusters: NOW Comics Volume 1 Issue 6

The Real Ghostbusters NOW Comics Volume 1 Issue 6 is the sixth issue in Now Comics' The Real Ghostbusters ongoing series, published in February 1989. Written by James Van Hise with art by John Tobias, this issue sends the Ghostbusters to a television network overrun by mischievous ghosts, ultimately revealing that an ancient entity known as the Nameless One is behind the haunting.

Plot

Ghosts invade a television network and begin wreaking havoc across its programming. Their antics range from the absurd to the grotesque: on the children's show Commander Bob, the ghosts turn the host into a zombie who proceeds to devour his furry animal co-stars. Other network shows are disrupted in similar fashion as the spectral interference spreads.

Egon Spengler, Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Winston Zeddemore, and Janine Melnitz respond to the call. The team traps all of the ghosts haunting the network. In doing so they discover that the Nameless One, an ancient entity, orchestrated the entire affair. He explains that his depression stems from the theft of his treasure. With the situation resolved, the Nameless One agrees to take a job at a museum, where he hides inside a sarcophagus and frightens would-be burglars.

Notable Details

This issue features Egon Spengler working on a vehicle he is constructing, which the series eventually establishes as the Ecto-4, a jet used by the Ghostbusters in the NOW Comics continuity. In this issue, however, Peter Venkman refers to the vehicle as the Ecto-3. The discrepancy was addressed by the editor and the vehicle was subsequently identified as the Ecto-4 throughout the rest of the series.
