J.M. DeMatteis (full name John Marc DeMatteis, born 1953) is an American comic book writer who contributed to The Real Ghostbusters animated series. His broader career spans decades of work for Marvel and DC Comics as well as scripts for animated television.
DeMatteis wrote the episode The Devil in the Deep for The Real Ghostbusters, in which the team is hired to investigate a haunting tied to a sunken vessel and the spirit bound to it.

Outside of Ghostbusters, DeMatteis is best known as a comic book writer, but he has also scripted for several animated series. His television writing credits include episodes of Justice League, Superboy, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, ThunderCats, and Teen Titans Go!
A nod to DeMatteis appears in Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019): a building named the Hotel DeMatteis references his long run writing Spider-Man comics. The detail is highlighted in the film's home-video bonus feature on hidden references.1
