Proton Pack

Yes...I do know that my Proton packs do not look like the ones in the movie; however, I wasmaking 8 costumes in two weeks. I decided to do a fun interpretation of a Proton pack. I hope this still fits the catefgory! If not, I will move it. :) So recently I got a new set of Band Hero drums. I started to throw away the mache packaging and thought...this stuff could make a cool proton pack. So, as you might be able to tell, the base of the pack is blocky mache packaging. It was ideal for adding lights, air hose, and wires. I made four of these packs for my son and his friends/cousins. I was given all of the hoses and CATV wire which I stripped to get at the colored wires. Each one was just slightly different from one another because it was packaing, but I thought it added to the effect. I made four of these for $8 (I had to buy a set of 25 XMas lights for each one). The black hose is corrugated tubing which is great for holding shape, holstering etc. For Halloween, at the end of the tubes, I packed in a bunch of necklace glow sticks in yellow, orange and blue to get the streams efftect. The mache is attached to an insulation foam back and that is wrapped in black duct tape to add strength. I used men's belts to make the backpack style straps. The top and back are attached to one another via zip ties. This works great if you need to make changes later. I made all of the stickers on my computer. I hope these pictures do it justice. Here are several shots of just one of the packs. I will post photos of the kids with them on later!!
