We choose to deliberately not run this news story when we first heard about it several days ago. At this point the whole Ghostbusters 3 situation has been blown way out of proportion. We saw news about Ghostbusters 3 on
Yahoo,
Comcast,
Good Morning America,
Variety,
BBC, and
Ain't it Cool News... among hundreds of other sites! I wanted to make sure that we were all on the same page.
E! Online posted a video to their
blog in which Dan Aykroyd was prompted by an interviewer to answer briefly about a rumor we
reported on in July (and later
debunked...
twice). He indicated that he would love it if Seth Rogen and Judd Apatow would work on a Ghostbusters movie. Let it be known that it was still just a rumor and he was responding to that rumor as he was
prompted to. There still is very little truth towards Seth Rogen, or any of the Judd Apatow group to be involved, and if it were to happen.. it would be purely coincidental.
The main news that has evolved from the E! Online video blog post has been in regards to Dan Aykroyd mentioning that there are two big Hollywood writers working on a script for a third installment of Ghostbusters.
Variety reported that those writers are the writer/producers of the US version of The Office, Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky. While Variety was not able to get Sony / Columbia to comment on the rumors they did state that nothing was worked out that would allow a movie like this to get produced.
Let's just make sure we are all on the same page here to clear up any confusion.
There are two writers who are working on a script for Ghostbusters 3, but that does not really mean a film is being made. The media has blown this story completely out of proportion. People write movie scripts all of the time, and just because something like this has been reported does not by any means indicate that a movie will be green lighted. The game of "telephone" is in effect, and rumors are snowballing and compounding.
Ghostbusters 3 is not in production... not yet.... not right now... but it is being written.
