Plot

On Halloween night Slimer finishes dressing as the superhero Mega-Man, with Fred decked out as Mega-Man's canine sidekick Mercury. Before they can head out, Slimer crashes into the rec room and Peter Venkman, dressed as Dracula, orders him to clean the mess before leaving. Slimer forms a vortex and stuffs everything into a closet to speed things up. Satisfied, Peter lets them go, but the closet immediately erupts and buries him under the debris.

Meanwhile at the Dweeb residence, Professor Dweeb unveils his Inflatable Slimer Costume (his "second greatest invention") and his actual first greatest invention: the Transdimensional Easy Lounger, a device capable of teleporting someone to the Ghost Zone. He sneaks out while his mother assumes he is handing out candy, and recruits Elizabeth for the scheme.

Peter spots Dweeb in the Slimer costume from the window and orders "Slimer" inside to finish cleaning. Dweeb completes the chores and slips out, nearly stealing Peter's Crispy Crunch Bars on the way. On the waterfront, a crate is dropped from a crane and Goolem and Zugg, two ghosts with an old grudge against Slimer, thaw out and immediately plot their revenge. They attempt to frighten some children but the children frighten them back.

Slimer and Fred spot Goolem and Zugg and hide. The ghosts, still searching for Slimer, accost Dweeb by mistake and pull off his mask. Dweeb apologizes and hands Goolem his business card. Elizabeth then clamps down on Slimer's costume, the disguise slips, and Slimer is exposed. Slimer and Fred flee into an alley and slam Goolem and Zugg into garbage cans, but Dweeb is waiting and traps Slimer in a lead-lined box. Goolem decides to let Dweeb proceed since the business card gives them the address.

Back at the Dweeb residence, Professor Dweeb straps Slimer onto the Transdimensional Easy Lounger and fires it. Slimer reappears on the chair each time. Doubling the power causes a city-wide blackout. Mrs. Dweeb, furious about losing her television, sends Dweeb to the roof to fix the antenna. Fred slips in through the basement window, subdues Elizabeth, and frees Slimer. Goolem and Zugg arrive just as Slimer hatches a plan: he surrenders and pleads to keep the lounger. Goolem grows suspicious, forces Slimer away, and sits down to relax. Slimer activates the chair and Goolem is teleported near the antenna on the roof, vanishing with Dweeb. Zugg is tricked next with the same ruse. Slimer and Fred celebrate while upstairs Mrs. Dweeb watches her favorite program: Dweeb being chased by Goolem and Zugg at the South Pole, broadcast live. Back at the Firehouse, Peter oversees Slimer and Fred as they sort through their trick-or-treat haul.

Characters

  • Slimer
  • Fred
  • Peter Venkman (voiced by Dave Coulier)
  • Professor Dweeb (voiced by Jeff Altman)
  • Elizabeth (voiced by Charlie Adler)
  • Mrs. Dweeb (voiced by June Foray, guest)
  • Goolem (voiced by Alan Oppenheimer)
  • Zugg (voiced by Danny Mann)

Ghosts

Goolem is a recurring Slimer! antagonist voiced by Alan Oppenheimer. He leads a pair of ghosts carrying a grudge against Slimer, and his scheming, blustery personality makes him a persistent foil throughout the series. Oppenheimer's voice for the character shares qualities with his Prime Evil portrayal in Filmation's Ghostbusters.

Zugg is Goolem's hulking, dim-witted partner, voiced by Danny Mann. He follows Goolem's lead and is easily manipulated into sitting on the Transdimensional Easy Lounger.

Equipment

  • Transdimensional Easy Lounger: Professor Dweeb's self-proclaimed first greatest invention. The chair teleports whoever sits in it to the Ghost Zone, or, when aimed at the roof antenna, to the South Pole. Dweeb considers it superior to the Inflatable Slimer Costume (his second greatest invention).
  • Lead Ghost Box: A lead-lined container used by Dweeb to trap Slimer.
  • Inflatable Slimer Costume: Dweeb's wearable Slimer disguise, convincing enough to fool Peter Venkman at a distance.

Trivia

  • The episode was recorded on August 10, 17, and 24, 1988. June Foray recorded her scenes alone on August 17; Jeff Altman recorded his scenes alone on August 24.
  • Series regular Frank Welker voices a Robin Leech parody character in the episode. The show Mrs. Dweeb watches, "Lifestyles of Rich People Who Buy Big Houses for Their Mothers," is a direct parody of Leech's real program "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous."
  • Series regular Alan Oppenheimer voices Goolem. His delivery for the character shares characteristics with his Prime Evil voice from Filmation's Ghostbusters animated series.
  • This is a Halloween episode. Unlike "The Halloween Door" in The Real Ghostbusters proper, Samhain is not referenced or alluded to.
  • Slimer's costume is based on a superhero named Mega-Man; Fred's Mercury costume references Mega-Man's canine companion. The name and blue costume share coincidental similarities with the video game character Mega Man, and the superhero-and-dog pairing echoes Superman and his dog Krypto. Fred's Mercury hat also alludes to the Greek messenger god.
  • As the closet contents come crashing out, several animator in-jokes are visible: the television screen reads "Funny stuff ehh? ... Hope so!" and a banner reads "Hi Mom!" This kind of background gag is reminiscent of similar jokes in Merrie Melodies cartoons.
  • Professor Dweeb's first name, Norman, is revealed in this episode when his mother calls for him and when he hands Goolem his business card.
  • Professor Dweeb's full contact information, as shown on his business card: Prof. Norman Dweeb, 1313 Reactor Rd., New York, NY, (212) 555-1212.
  • Mrs. Dweeb's favorite television program is "Lifestyles of Rich People Who Buy Big Houses for Their Mothers."
  • Professor Dweeb's favorite candy bar is Crispy Crunch Bars.
  • The closing scene, in which Peter supervises Slimer and Fred reviewing their trick-or-treat candy, is likely a nod to the educational mandate that governed the Slimer! segments.
  • June Foray, who voiced Mrs. Dweeb, was a legendary voice actress known for Rocky the Flying Squirrel (Rocky and Bullwinkle), Witch Hazel, and many others.
