Plot

Slimer is playing with a yo-yo near the Firehouse reception desk and gets tangled up. Glancing at a calendar, he realizes it is Chilly's birthday. He daydreams about delivering the perfect gift and earning a birthday kiss, then grabs his Stay Puft Marshmallow Man piggy bank and heads to Gumball's Department Store.

At the store, Slimer wanders through the Radio and TV section before reaching the Toys department. He pulls the string on a bear doll, which responds with a karate chop, then climbs into a toy car and drives it over the feet of a nearby sales clerk. Emerging from a clothing rack in the apparel section, he is briefly mistaken for a woman by the startled clerk.

In cosmetics, Slimer samples several perfumes. A shopper spots him and panics, sending the store manager to investigate. The clerk, equally alarmed, calls security. Ed the security guard opens a vault and releases Bruiser, a large dog trained to handle intruders.

A chase follows through the store. Slimer hides in a cash register as Bruiser approaches; Bruiser presses the buttons and the register behaves like a slot machine, eventually shooting the drawer open and sending Bruiser sliding across the floor into a baby crib. Bruiser next tracks Slimer to an inflatable raft, jumps in, and Slimer releases all the air, dropping the dog onto a bench where bowling balls land on his paws.

Slimer takes cover inside a television set. Bruiser searches the set, checks the dials and antenna, finds nothing, and destroys the television in frustration, only for Slimer to appear simultaneously on every screen in the department. Bruiser reports back to Ed with a thumbs up, but Slimer emerges behind him carrying a boom box.

In the shipping department, Slimer quickly packages himself and hides inside a wrapped box. Ed and Bruiser decide to take no chances and destroy every single package in the room. The clerk receives the all-clear. Meanwhile, on her delivery route, Chilly receives a rush package containing a vial of her favorite perfume. When she sprays it, Slimer pops out and wishes her a happy birthday. Chilly is deeply touched: Slimer was the only one who remembered, and she hugs him.

Locations

Trivia

  • Chilly Cooper's birthday is revealed to be October 6, establishing that the story takes place on that date.
  • The calendar Slimer consults confirms the year is 1988, placing the episode's events in-universe during that year.
  • Slimer keeps a Stay Puft Marshmallow Man piggy bank hidden in a vent on the first floor of the Firehouse.

Animation Errors
