The first season of The Real Ghostbusters began airing on ABC on September 13, 1986. The animated series carried the characters of the 1984 Ghostbusters film into a Saturday-morning cartoon, following Peter Venkman, Egon Spengler, Ray Stantz, Winston Zeddemore, their secretary Janine Melnitz, and the green ghost Slimer as they ran their paranormal investigation and elimination business out of the firehouse.
Thirteen episodes were produced for this first run. The original voice cast featured Lorenzo Music as Venkman, Maurice Lamarche as Spengler, Frank Welker as Stantz and Slimer, Arsenio Hall as Zeddemore, and Laura Summer as Melnitz. J. Michael Straczynski worked as a story editor on the show and wrote several of the season's scripts.1
