Plot

After attending a symphony concert with Slimer, Egon gives him a conductor's baton as a keepsake. Slimer initially mistakes it for a snack, but then begins imitating a conductor and spins out of control into a concert sign. Egon suggests Slimer organize his own symphony, and Slimer takes the idea and runs with it.

Slimer recruits his friend Chilly Cooper while she drives her ice cream truck route. Chilly agrees to sing, demonstrating a voice powerful enough to shatter nearby glass. Slimer then spreads advertisements for the upcoming concert throughout a park. Meanwhile, Professor Dweeb and his poodle Elizabeth are relaxing on a park bench. A bird drops an egg on Dweeb's head, and Slimer plasters one of his concert advertisements to the back of Dweeb's head before flying off. Dweeb reads it and is incensed that Slimer has the nerve to bill himself as a "Professor" in the flyer, and immediately begins scheming.

Slimer's Saturday outdoor concert opens with Professor Von Ludwig (Slimer himself, in costume) taking the stage. The crowd, including friends and foes alike, applauds. Luigi plays drums, Bud plays guitar, and Rudy takes the piano. Chilly, Janine Melnitz, and Mrs. Van Huego share vocal duties, performing the Motown classic "Please Mr. Postman." Dweeb and Elizabeth spy on the concert from nearby. Dweeb tests his new Rubber Conversion Unit on Elizabeth, then sneaks toward the stage and begins spraying the audience and equipment. His plan backfires when Mrs. Van Huego lands squarely on Dweeb. The device goes haywire and Dweeb himself begins bouncing to extraordinary heights. Dweeb and Elizabeth are left bouncing uncontrollably into the evening, while Slimer retreats to his clubhouse, pulls down the shades, and calls it a night.

Characters

Slimer is the central character, organizing the concert and serving as its conductor under the name "Professor Von Ludwig."

Egon Spengler attends the original symphony with Slimer and provides the initial inspiration by gifting him a conductor's baton. Maurice LaMarche provides the voice.

Chilly Cooper is Slimer's friend and an ice cream truck driver with a powerful singing voice. She is one of the concert's featured vocalists. Cree Summer provides the voice; the Slimer! series bible names her truck "Louise."

Professor Dweeb (voiced by Jeff Altman) is the recurring antagonist of the Slimer! series, here armed with a Rubber Conversion Unit that turns objects and people into bouncing rubber. His plan collapses when the device turns against him. Elizabeth, his poodle companion, accompanies him throughout.

Luigi, Bud, and Rudy are members of Slimer's circle who make up the concert band, on drums, guitar, and piano respectively.

Janine Melnitz and Mrs. Van Huego join Chilly Cooper on vocals for "Please Mr. Postman." Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, and Winston Zeddemore also appear among the concert audience.

Equipment

  • Ice Cream Truck (Chilly Cooper's, nicknamed "Louise" per the series bible)
  • Dweeb's Van
  • Rubber Conversion Unit (Professor Dweeb's invention; converts any object it hits into rubber, causing uncontrolled bouncing)

Locations

  • Metropolitan Opera House (the concert Slimer and Egon attend at the episode's opening)

Trivia

  • Recording sessions for this episode took place on July 29 and August 3, 1988. Jeff Altman (Professor Dweeb) recorded his lines alone on July 29. On August 3, the song "Please Mr. Postman" was recorded from 9:30 to 10:30 am, followed by dialogue from 10:30 to 11:00 am.
  • The Metropolitan Opera House also appears in the RGB episode "A Fright at the Opera", where Egon takes Peter Venkman to a performance.
  • The song "Please Mr. Postman" performed by Chilly, Janine, and Mrs. Van Huego is the Motown hit originally recorded by The Marvelettes in 1961.
