Plot

Slimer is short on money and wants to buy ice cream. He comes up empty after checking his Stay Puft Marshmallow Man piggy bank hidden inside a grandfather clock in the sleeping quarters, and Winston Zeddemore is also out of change. Chilly Cooper tells him she will return in the afternoon, giving him time to scrape together 50 cents. Rudy, who overheard, steers Slimer to his office (a phone booth) and offers him a job at his newly launched Rudy's Messenger Service.

Slimer takes the work. Rudy lends him a bicycle, delivery clothes, and sunglasses. Professor Dweeb spots the opportunity and calls Rudy's service, dispatching Slimer to a rigged address. Slimer makes the first pickup by flying straight through the building, yanking a package free from a cement slab bolted to the ceiling, then inadvertently fixing the damage before leaving. Dweeb and Elizabeth arrive to find the room untouched. A second call sends Slimer back to the same address. This time Dweeb hides in a trash can with a string-and-doorknob trap set. Slimer tidies up some litter and unknowingly seals them inside, then flies through the door, grabs the second package, and departs. Dweeb triggers his own elaborate contraption on the way in: an anvil, a jelly doughnut, a scale, a Statue of Liberty figurine, a rocket, a bowling ball, a bucket, a set of gears, and finally a Motorized Desk equipped with a giant mechanical hand. The desk catches Dweeb and Elizabeth and deposits them in a small metal cage.

With no more calls coming in, Rudy tallies Slimer's wages. Starting from $1.50, he deducts expenses for the bicycle, on-job training, and the rental of the sunglasses, leaving Slimer with 10 cents. Just as Slimer despairs, the next call turns out to be the daily telephone jackpot: a cascade of coins pours from the phone. Slimer and Chilly ride off together, and Slimer happily eats his ice cream.

Trivia

  • The episode was recorded on August 15, 1988 and broadcast on ABC on October 1, 1988.
  • Slimer's Stay Puft Marshmallow Man piggy bank makes another appearance in this episode, this time hidden inside the grandfather clock in the sleeping quarters.
  • Winston says "Lucy, I'm home," a reference to the 1950s television show I Love Lucy.
  • The title card incorrectly swaps the last names of the writing team, crediting "Dennys Hickey" and "Pamela McCoy" rather than Dennys McCoy and Pamela Hickey.
  • A revised script dated June 7, 1988 included an additional scene in which Rudy correctly guessed that Professor Dweeb was placing calls from directly across the street. That scene was cut from the broadcast version.

Animation Errors

  • When Slimer searches inside Winston's jumpsuit for change, Winston's uniform briefly shows Ray Stantz's color scheme instead.
  • When Professor Dweeb is trapped in the cage with Elizabeth, his lips continue moving during her barks.
